The MB manual provided with the car states that the car will produce 162kW at 6,400/min, redline at 7,000 rpm and the max torque of 265Nm at 4600/min.


If your manual states the rated power is 162kW, this translates loosely into 220 hp....very similar to the 217hp quoted for the U.S. I don't believe MB made any 240hp M104 motors for the 300CE. At least I couldn't find any in the CD-ROM for the W124.

AMG did produce a 3.4 liter variation of this motor rated at 200Kw @6500 rpm. This translates to roughly 272hp.
