It could have been worse. Like a bent radiator support bracket.

My friend with a '99 E320 wagon hit something made of metal in the road one night. That bent the shock somehow, it rattled a lot but he was able to gimp home. He replaced the ball joint and a control arm and it wasn't cheap.
Will your insurance cover this like it would a windshield?
