It was at one time.

The Klan in Texas was once made up of the leading members of society. They saw the legal system as something that needed reforming and they were the ones that needed to write the rules.

And the fact that under those robes was often the local Judge and county LEO's gave the whole thing that air of respectability that is so often missing from a lynch mob.

Now please feel free to rail on about how wrong I am, but I knew these folks and none of them were shy about admitting to their efforts to make America safe from the evil influence of whatever group of people they might be upset with at the moment.

A few years ago there were people in our country that were talking about how much better off the US would be if we would just toss out the parts of our Constitution they did not like, such as the amendments dealing with restrictions to states rights. Someone made the comment of, "Have you ever seen such kind of talk", and I had to honestly say, "Why, yes. I have."
