Condemning someone to burn in hell is basically a threat to coerce someone into believing. First off you tell him that he will be punished for his misdeeds in this world. Escaping it, he will be punished in the next world. Best case scenario, punished once. Worst case, twice.

How to get him to believe that tripe? Scare him again into the idea that by not believing, and thus following, he will burn. Next comes the "What do you have to lose? If you believe and you are wrong, nothing happens. If you don't believe and you are wrong, wait for it,,,,, wait for it,,,,,, you burn in hell."

What this states is that the deity is so desperate for accolades that he will accept "belief thru fear". That or he/she/it doesn't know the difference. Is it worthwhile to work with such a deity?
