My First MB Diesel (87 300sdl)-Vacuum Problems

Just bought my first diesel am working my way through the typical vacuum issues I've been reading about here. AC blowing out the defrost vents and hard shifting

Chasing vacuum leaks and replacing hard lines, connectors and hose as I go. Have a mighty vac but at first could not get any reading at the pump nipple. After unclogging the vacuum pump nipple I now get more vacuum than I expected (over 40hg). Also cleaned the intake manifold nipple and replaced the hard and soft lines.

When I started the project, I had an orange filter/restrictor in the hose between the pump and the original 5 way connector. This crumbled and is no longer useable. So, for now I have a straight thru connector which I'm guessing is the reason for the high vacuum. Also, I took the advice found here and bought an "F" connector and eliminated the EGR crap on the right. The good news is that my air/heat is now flowing out the right vents. Bad news, I also have 40+- vacuum to the transmission.

I'm having trouble locating the correct filter/restrictors for my car. Can anyone help me with locating these restrictors so that I can get proper vacuum numbers at the right place?
