Here are a few places I though were great:

1. Boston, Great pubs, restuarants and has personality

2. New York City, If you haven't gone you definitely should!

3. DC, Other than New York City this has to be the number two place for its ethnic diversity, from restuarants to nightlife.

4. San Juan Capistrano, Quaint city by the beach, would love to live here.

There are several others but I haven't spent enough time to truly recommend them.
