I think the best local joint has to be
Gatto's Diner. 1949 diner car, completely restored and loaded with pictures and such from the 1950's and '60's. You can get a tasty burger, a shake, drop a few coins in the jukebox, and enjoy.
My wife and I have made it a once a month thing for us to do while the kids are in school.
