The tar is a mix of Blowby oil and Soot from the EGR that builds up over the years.

I used a Steam Cleaner to clean the one from the 85 300D, had that crap blown on me. Some nasty stuff blows out of it. Be sure to use some Rain gear and Rubber boots.

Getting an Intake from a Junker wouldn`t be any better, they are all the same.

Anyone that thinks a 240D is slow drives too fast.
