mine came with double sided adhesive - the suggested miata application calls for one screw with the tape. i found that it wasn't enough and i had to use 4 screws.
about the slam test, i doubt any cupholder could survive that mounted to the door. i grab the drink as i'm getting out, and slam the door no problem!
i seem to recall having seen a double back-to-back cupholder that goes on the armrest. it might have been at the dealership...
