As a result of having wasted a lovely fall day cruising the internet for all things Benz, I find myself becoming singularly obsessed with the idea of retro-fitting my 560SEL with a PROPER Euro-Spec S/E shift mode selector switch.

I know that there have been a mass of home-brewed and boutique solutions to either have full-time FGS or selectable FSG down the years but I personally never felt that they offered much in the way of an improvement over either 1) “clicking” into B and going back up to D to blow stupid punk kids away at the light or 2) just keeping the gear selector in 3 when driving about town at low speed to enjoy a bit more pep.

In fact, there seems to be some disagreement as to whether or not FGS and Euro S/E are, in fact, even the same thing.

Be that as it may, any ideas on what it would take - other than finding a Euro-spec shift assembly - to retro-fit my 560SEL to have an S/E mode selector option?
