Motor Mounts and shield

Roy informed me of a way to check to see if you need to replace your
motor mounts with a #2 pencil. My wife's SD failed the test, so I'm
going to replace the mounts with Lemforder, as I understand they are made by the same factory as OEM. I ordered Phoenix, but PP sent the Lemforders. I can even see where they ground off
the Mercedes star in the rubber. I am missing the shield on the passenger
side. I thought it was a heat shield but after hunting around I find it's actually a drip shield to keep oil off the rubber. A new one is 48.00!! So
can I leave it off, or can I just make one with a piece of aluminum gutter
flashing or perhaps a beer can? If it really is just for drips even an aluminum baking pan sheet metal should work. If I just leave it with nothing, is it all that big a deal?
