A whack in the head is a time proven method for killing an animal. Even an animal larger than a human.
You see someone go unconsious and abandon them? That should be good for many years in jail even if you didn't hit them.

One of the disturbing things about this is it leads to wishing harm to young people, even if they are young thugs. Being put in this position should be resented.

If a person who is assaulted is killed, then the charge of a homicide would apply. It may not be murder (intent) but certainly manslaughter. For attempt to be brought, the prosecution would have to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the accused intended to kill, or acted with such reckless disregard that a death would be more than likely to occur.
