You are correct. I looked up the part and saw how inexpensive it is, and thought, "Why am I messing around with this?" In the meantime, I put some lithium grease where I could, chased it in with some silicone spray, worked it a bunch of times and it seems to be OK for the time being. But it is not 100%. I'll add one to my next parts order and will avoid flooring it until I get the new switch.

I did discover on putting the switch back in that you do not need to remove the whole carpet to get to it. It is right there under the accelerator pedal.
