While the two systems are indeed different in many details, they are both K-jetronic (CIS) systems, and both operate with closed loop control of mixture.

If the later system (KE) is installed on a six-cylinder engine (M103), and if you were to take ALL of the components, including the engine control unit (ECU), all the engine sensors, and the wiring harness, then those components could be adapted to the M110 engine.
