To keep brake dust down on the front wheels I use Kleen Wheels dust shields

My local indie MB shop guy, who has been fixing MBs for 30 years, says those dust shields promote much faster brake lining wear because all of that residue gets dumped back on the lining instead of blowing away from the lining as designed. Any thoughts on this?
