as far as I'm aware, the 124 uses a mechanical speedo, so the 126 transmission would not be a direct swap. you could pull the speedo and wiring from a 93/4/5 420E as they have an electronic speedo (as a matter of fact, I've got one in a yard near my house...)
the 90-93 300D uses a 722.418, a much lighter duty trans than the 87, and of course the motor is 5 cyl, not 6...

so, any 87 300D/TD would work for the trans, but the engine can come from any 86-88 SDL or a 300D/TD as the 603 3.0L is the same across the board. but the motor mounts are different, so keep them with the car.
