I had a 1977 (I think) 280E and got about 15 mpg with the automatic. Mine was FI and this looks carbed. Is that correct? It has been quite a while since I owned one of these.

If FI then watch out for the warm-up regulator. These are easy to replace but they run about $600 for a new one. However rebuilt ones are available now and I think there are a lot of DIY articles on rebuilding this little thing.

Adjusting the valves is a pain since there are so many of them and if you intend to do this yourself start shopping Ebay for a Hazet 17mm crowsfoot that is made just for this car. It will make the job far easier, and if you grind off a bit of the face of the wrench it will fit into the head easier.

Hazet makes two different types of 17mm crowsfoot wrenches. One is #4550 which is for injection lines. I don't know the number of the other but it is the one you need.

Beyond that it was fantastic.
