Canada may have a much tighter policy regarding illegal immigration. As soon as an illegal is detected action is probably taken to find and expel them. A lot of effort is undertaken at border points to turn them back.

Plus in reality with no illegal type communities or existing groups it would be a pretty difficult task to fit in. Some get in on a six month visitor permit and when it expires have to be located. This permit does not entitle them to work.

We do bring in foreign temporary labour locally but it is well controlled. Especially Mexicans in sizable numbers. We have a situation where locals will not take certain jobs. If this trend continues will present an interesting situation.

We have one large local employer. Just twenty miles away. That will give you twenty thousand towards a house that is non repayable if you stay with him for three years. His hourly wage for unskilled labour has to be over ten fifty an hour as that is the minumin wage and in general he would probably pay more. Housing in his area is very reasonable as well.

What is disturbing is the legal immigration flow is basically to three large Canadian cities where the cost of living is horrible in comparison. A house for say sixty thousand here is 500k in those cities. But they have ethnic communities and support where we have none.
