its infact easier on a later w124 as you only have to deal with the drain trays and one piece windshield rubber gasket. Use ajax to reseat the gasket into the windshield groove.
to lubricate it - buy a can of 3 in 1 quarter horse power motor oil (blue printing) from Ace hardware/home depot etc. the idea is that you need to feed the bushings the oil - I did it and made a wick of cotton to drip the oil into the bushings over 2 hours - worked a treat.
Be very gentle with the fans - they are specific to later models (they are smaller). If you find that your motor shaft is wobbly, dont be startled at the prices (north of 300 for a replacement) - you can replace the motor only. (did that too as I ran it squealing for too long and wore out a bushing on the motor)
the only difference is the wiring connector for the motor has pigtails soldered to the motor itself - buy an older style genuine motor and splice your old motor wiring connectors to it.
while doing this job - you might want to replace the cabin filters too - they sit right above the motor.
