The LCD display was updated in later model 124 cars to include a wire from the hall effect (speed) sensor to enhance the accuracy of the system (which is unreliable at low/stop vehicle speeds). I'm not sure if the original part is still available.

You CAN use the new style IIRC - gsxr has the answer.
Wiring pin 5 to ground may work.
