They appear to offer the same or similar drive line on the GLK 250 Blue Tec which gets a stated 33/24 but I didn’t see an E class wagon with the 2.5 drive train.
By comparison to the new e class, a local dealer is offering an ’06 320 CDI with 85K on the clock, that gets a reported 36 MPG hiway for about $17.5 That’s probably indicative of what the next few years will do to the cost of the new edition.

They pretty much "have to" given really tough European and coming US CAFE standards. V8 gassers are likely to be disappearing from most model lines, to be replaced mostly by V6 and I4.
