I had a low milage chev vega sport station wagon many years ago. Mine did not develop the typical engine issues. The car was sent to the wreckers because the floor went out in a similar fashion to that ford. Easily put a screwdriver through it anywhere.

Not unusual for the 70s-early 00's unfortunately. You didn't give a timeline but I've seen a lot of that in late 80s early 90s fords and some late 90s early 00s. Friend of mine has an explorer sport and half of it is literally rusting away. Sad, it's at 150k and very strong.
