My 98 E300 has been extremely reliable. I've had some of the common issues mentioned above including driver seat rails and some other oddities that were covered under Starmark.

Bought with 50k on it, have put 25k miles on it, never had a warning light or breakdown.

Check the service history on your potential purchase - it should be telling.
