He is receiving the benefit of a good public education funded by property tax paying Roman citizens. When accepting a benefit from the Roman state such as a tax payer funded "public education", one surrenders the right to protest against Caesar and Caesar's flag.

I think one of the major misunderstandings amongst people is the difference between patriotism and approval/disapproval of the government. Mark Twain said it best, the two are not the same. I'm loyal to my country but that doesn't mean I always believe or think the government is correct in all that it does. Just because I may be critical of things the government does not mean I am not a patriot.
