Same here for my 3 daughters.
I followed that up when each turned 18 telling them that they were of legal age and could do anything they wanted. Then I reminded them that their mother and I could make a similar choice as well, and their choices would influence the level of support they would have.
A father's role is well stated above, it's not easy, but it's the best gift you can give your children.
I have the love and respect of my 3 kids, now that they are pretty much grown and independent, and we are proud that they have learned to be responsible and independent.
