Oh, that stinks. We had to put down our 17-year-old cat down several years ago, and it was sad (she had been having seizures and also had severe arthritis that prevented her from even jumping onto couches very well). We went to the vet in the morning, had her put down, and then drove up into New Hampshire. We stopped to eat at a Chili's in Amherst, and my mother, I, and my sister all left the restaurant one after another, crying, leaving my father alone with three unfinished meals. That night we took her favorite toy and sealed it in a wooden box and cried a lot more.

It was one of those funks you never thought you'd get out of. It's got to be all the worse that yours was unanticipated.
