This is always tough. My parents had rescued "Brownie", from an abusive neighbor, when they got married in 1941.

He was a cocker spaniel/irish setter mix, and I came to truly love him and he loved us in the family also.

He was pretty old, at 17 and blind by then, and then one day my mom told me he'd been run over and killed by a speeding taxicab near our house.

My grief was immense. I adored that dog.

Perhaps one of these days I'll get another one. Maybe a mature dog and not a pup would be nice.

Brownie died in 1958.
