Thanks guys! It does look like it's rotated with the shift levers toward the engine which would allow me to hook up my linkage.
I probably should explain - I pulled the complete trans/flywheel/clutch/shifter assembly from an '83 240. All the rods were marked so I know where they go and no adjustments were messed with so I expected them to fall right into place. I think the "issue" is that I need the shifter to sit more or less straight up and down and the factory installation assumes that the shifter assembly will be tilted as it sits much further forward in the car.
It's starting to make sense but the pics would be helpful.
