I posted some charts on that last year but I focused mainly on Murder and Violent Crimes.
Crimes are down; especially Murder from the Peak in the later 1980s but if I remember are at least double what they where at the time Kennedy was killed.
There is also a difference between Murder and other Crimes. I believe the Murder Rate was extremly low in the early 1960s even compared to know. Not as sure on the other Crimes.
In any event if you grew up just before or during the later 1980s you view is going to be that there is less Crime because that is true.
Towards the end of the 1960s crime starts rise and the general trend is that it rises until the later 1980s.
