I did some work on a house occupied by tenants at the time. They were a tad dog-happy, had 3 - there was dog waste all over the back yard and walkway behind the house. One of them was a female half pit/half Siberian husky. She was an attractive dog, a good bit smaller than the average pit but you could see the influence. Was also much more likeable than the other two, one of those being the only basenji I'd encountered.

Gave me a different perspective on the pit line, but mongrels often soften the harder edges of a possibly inbred species. Pits with the massively muscular necks and faces are worrisome for me. People who are attracted to that sort of attacking power tend, IMO, to be not especially trustworthy. I'm reminded of the teacher who was killed in SF by a huge presa canario, an obscure breed with a dangerous reputation. Was being raised by surrogates as part of a lifer's dog breeding business, operated from his cell. Very strange.
