We get coons in our neighborhood with the woods across the street. Lots of foxes also. The foxes aren't a bother at all and never had to shoot one.

I had a cat about a year ago, outdoor cat. I recall it being away for about 2 days (quite typical) and she had the coloring of a coon. Well, one was rummaging around at something when I came back from the neighbors and it was at the side of my house. I began to start calling the cats name thinking it was her and the coon turned around and started looking at me and approaching. I got away calmly without a bother, but I haven't had to shoot one yet. They typically don't bother us here, and haven't been through my trash so I'm ok right now.
