To because he's not a GI. Ow if OTOH he were a member of the military on a trumped up charge, it would be a different story. He would be just left to rot.

Being a veteran myself, I came to understand through conversation with political types they can be divided into three groups; those who support veterans and veteran rights, those who simply do not care one way or the other and those who loathe and despise the military. I've met and talked with all three, it doesn't take long to get a read on a man simply by listening to what he says...........

When the book first came out, the author appeared on C-Span and gave the particulars that led up to the book. Let's just say he had a front row seat to some real nasty behavior......
