I lived in the D/FW area for years and then decided I had had enough of it and moved 170 miles north into Indian Territory. Traffic here is nothing and people tend to measure distance by time and not miles. Such as: How far is Tulsa? About two hours is the normal answer and not 100 miles. How far is the next town? Ten minutes and not eight miles.
How far is Dallas? Three hours. So if I need to go to a big city I spend less time in traffic that if I lived in LA just going into downtown.
Twenty years ago I knew a guy that was transferred to Dallas from LA. He bought a small farm 70 miles north of Dallas and drove in each and every day. He said he still spent less time in traffic than he did in LA.
But that was then and this is now. Anyone who has driven through McKinney, Texas on US 75 during the past few years knows what a mess that is, but then Central Expressway in Dallas used to be much worse until it got revamped.
In a related theme: How old am I? Why, Sonny, I can remember when Central Expressway in Plano was only a two lane road. And we were danged glad to have it! Why, before it was paved it was dirt. DIRT, I tell you! These kids today, you try to tell tell them how easy they have it, and........
What was I talking about? Oh, yeah! Them danged Kids! Well, Sir, .......
