I've never really liked the way he describes how to orient the came lobe and I think the picture he includes is confusing as it appears that the came lobe is pointing straight up. You want the valves pointed in such a way that the large side of the lobe is aligned with contact surface for the rocker. Generally, this means that the small end of the lobe will point approximately at the camshaft oiler.
