I have used the metal frame from older wiper blade inserts. They are about 0.020" thick and 0.125" wide, the square end worked just fine. Insert then move outward to trip latches, wiggle and pull.

The factory keys do work better as they keep the latches released and lock into place giving you something to pull on.
