Better put tape on the steering wheel too. She is probably messing with that all the time also!!
Speaking as an electrical engineer (but not automotive) I agree the only component suffering at all here is the button, and it is built to take it. If the fan failed quickly then either the problem is not the fan or you got a bad fan. For the record I have worked on several fans and regulators but never that specific car.
