What you are seeing is corona from high voltage. It is more like static electricity than anything else.

Also, caps rarely "crack" what you are getting is a carbon track across the surface. When voltage jumps the gap, it carbonizes the surface making it easier for the next spark to follow.

Be sure to change the plugs now, large gaps stress the car / wires / rotor / ignition coil making them fail sooner.
