Lose a few mph and it goes out, only to come on when speed goes up again. New, balanced OEM-sized snow tires on OEM rims all around, inflated to 36psi, on dry roadway. Hydraulic reservoir at D/S front filled to well above minimum level.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this? I'm assuming at this speed, the locking feature on the diff does not function.

Any ideas or suggestions most appreciated!

I have had the same problem with my '95 E300D for years. The indicator would come on at varying speeds between 55 and 65. For a while I could feel the ASD work (grab) at low speeds, then it stopped functioning but the indicator would still light when I spun the tires. In the past year the indicator light has not come on at all, now the malfunction light (next to the glow plug light) is on from the moment I start the car.

Have you seen this thread http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/tech-help/180544-asd-problem-94-e300d.html?

I still haven't gotten the blink codes to work in socket number 5. (get blink codes in other sockets though)
