I used nearly 4 quarts of the Valvoline Import synthetic in my '97 E 300 D, a few weeks ago. It shifts fine but it has been less than 500 miles so far. I would think that Valvoline is an expert on atf, so if they say it meets the 236.10 spec, I have no concern using it. Some have used their Max Life, which is said to meet NAG-1. I have found it hard to find another atf that meets 236.10 spec.
