that looks to be an m104.....if the chain is still on even if you move the crank it should not upset the timing (you know this)....as long as the motor is tdc even if the chain is not on it is easy enough to reset the bottom end if it moves. not sure about that year but you may have to take the belt pulley off to see the way to remove the balancer.
if you have air tools it would help and verify the thread direction before you have at it
