II think 1984 was the last mb without ANY electronic engine systems, but it was just rack position monitor for the egr system in 85.
The idle is controlled electronically in the w124.
In 96 the ip is electronically actuated, drive by wire, no more mechanical linkage... The w211 gets more complicated from there.
