As long as it is sealing OK I don't see a reason to change the Housing.
If you think it is possible for that long Filter Bolt suck in Water if some got in simly Hacksaw it off to shorten it.
Or you can simply use a new Crush washer but if you can get a Copper one. A Copper Crush Washer can often be reused by heating it red hot and then cooling it and that softens it.
Another alternative that oneo of our Members used is a NU-lip bonded aluminum washer that has rubber on the inner edge; claimed it came from ACE hardware.
