JamesDean is correct. It is very likely the big connector is misaligned. BTDT my D pin broke. Took me 12 tries to finally align mine. I then used a marker and mark alignment line. Went to a junk yard, got one D pin then glued it in.

Keep trying and you will get it to align correctly.
