My car was similar too, no grease in dust cap and the grease in the bearings was genuine green MB grease but was blackish and looked spent (wax cake), blued bearing rollers too.

bearings were not noisy but I replaced the bearings with made in USA timken brand filled the 65 grams in hub and 10 grams in cap. I have been advised that this is good practice and keeps the bearing in good shape. It also is advised in the manual.
