Yes. People perfer to buy the .357 mag and shot that or the 38 Special in it.
The Model 19 I bought My Father is a .357; however a steady diet of .357 wears them out sooner and the other way to go the Model 27 or 28 built on the 44 Mag Frame.
Model 27 or 28 besides being heavier the distance to reach the Trigger if longer.
The Smith & Wesson Guns like the 586 and 686 were made to aleviate those issues.
When I first got the Ruger Blackhawk I fired only 38 special in it. When I did fire the 357 I was shocked to find that it shot noticably lower then the 38s did.
Forgot to mention the obvious. If you reload Revolvers allow you to get all of your Cartridge Cases all of the time and you don't have to worry about the Bullet shape or construction and it is going to be reliable if you do your job correctly when you reload.
Semiautos are a whole lot better then they used to be but still can prefer a particular Ammo better then others.
Back to the TV Show they are scrounging Ammo anywhere they can find it and using it mostly in semiaouto Hand Guns. I that situation I would not expect them to be entirly reliable.
I had one unusual failure with a revolver. I bought a Box of reduced Price 30 Special in a battered box from a Sporting Good Store.
When I fired it they all fired but evidently they were really old and all of the powerd did not burn.
Apparently the powder not burning well did not expand the Cartridge Cases and the unburned Powder Grains when backwards and got under the Injector (Smint & Wesson Model 12 with 2 Inch Barrel). When I realoaded I could not push the Cylinder back into the Frame till the Power Grains were cleaned out from between the rear of the Cylinder and the Ejector.
