Question w115: removing door check strap - pin trapped underneath switch

Hey guys,

I'm trying to pull out a busted check strap on the drivers side door of my 76' 240D and removal of the pin is giving me problems. There's a plastic switch directly above it that prevents the pin from coming out. The pin hits the housing of the switch, not the button part, so simply depressing the button won't help. Any tips on getting this pin out?

I also tried removing the plastic washers on the top and bottom of the pin to allow a little more angle, but it still didn't clear.

Will I just have to open up the interior panel and pull out the switch? If so, how do you safely remove these panels without screwing them up?

thanks!
