Hello, we recently got a 1973 Mercedes 280. After a tune-up we found that the big issue with the car is that the Solex 4A1 carburetor is missing the secondary metering rods and CAM.
We have a great mechanic who can rebuild the carburetor for us at a reasonable price. However, I cannot seem to find a decent carburetor to use for parts. Does anyone have any recommendations for places to shop for these? Is it possible to just get the rods and CAM? I have been looking online for the past two months and am finding either parts that don't quite fit or look damaged (and I don't want to spend $300+ on a part that isn't going to do what I need). I have even looked at replacing with the Weber conversion kits, but have read some mixed reviews on those as well. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome. Thanks so much!
