The problem you may be facing is the swivel ball in the plastic case of the mirror being loose which in turn causes jiggle.
There is no way to repair that short of undoing the plastic case which destroys the mirror.
You can choose to install an auto dim mirror at this time, some member here on peachparts makes them for W124 I think.

Thanks for clarification. I wondered how I would tighten it if indeed it did connect in the same way the 123 did. Now I know!
