I was reading he played 43 minutes that night, and was not that long back from his previous injury. Reportedly his father and agent thought he should take a longer spell off for convalescence from his previous injury.

I've seen footage that indicates virtual certainty that it was a freak contact of Klay Thompson's knee moving forward into Irving's knee sideways that did the damage. Hard to say if any weakened condition made him more susceptible to the injury. I kinda think most people would suffer some discomfort for starters from a thrust into their knee like that.
