After digging through the whole car and parts catalogues, I can confirm, that there is only an inline filter before the carb and a tank strainer, that bolts in the bottom of the tank. The w124s with the same engine have a different filter setup.

By the way, after all these years the strainer in the tank was pretty clogged up
